A terrible fire on Tuesday destroyed the RSK Adebowale Multipurpose Filling Station, a petrol tanker, and a motorcycle in the Ofiki region of Saki, Oyo State.

Mr. Moroof Akinwande, Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, acknowledged the occurrence in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan.

Akinwande stated that the agency received a distress call regarding the fire incident from Alhaji Mufutau Badmus, the Saki Branch Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.

He stated that upon receiving the distress call, firemen led by Mr. Kolade Taiwo rushed to the location of the event.

“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the filling station, a DAF tanker truck loaded with 50,000 liters of petrol, one Bajaj motorcycle, and three fuel dispensing pumps were already engulfed in the inferno,” he said.

Akinwade stated that agency staff were able to completely extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other properties in the vicinity.

He praised the Ofiki Division members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their presence and ensuring security in the area throughout the exercise.

He advised filling station owners in the state to prioritize fire safety regulations.
