The Federal Government has ordered that movements near Eagle Square, the site of the inauguration parade, be restricted from 2 p.m. on Friday until Tuesday.

According to Chronicle NG, The Federal Secretariat Complexes Phases I, II, and III, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be sealed off by security personnel ahead of the event, according to a circular issued by Ngozi Onwudiwe, a permanent secretary at the Head of the Civil Service.

On May 29, President-elect Bola Tinubu and his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will be sworn in. Various branches of the military have been conducting drills in the weeks leading up to the inauguration event.

“As you may be aware, the Presidential Transition Council (PTC) has unveiled the activities marking the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Ceremony.

The Inauguration Parade and Swearing-in of President-Elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will take place on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Eagle Square, Central Business District, Abuja.

“In line with the security arrangements for the event, the Federal Secretariat Complexes Phases I, II, and III and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be cordoned off by security operatives from 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, to Monday, May 29, 2023.

“Accordingly, officers and intending visitors to the affected areas will not be allowed access till Tuesday, May 30, 2023, when work will resume in earnest,” the circular reads.

Three presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, are contesting Bola Tinubu’s win at the presidential election appeal court.

Aside from the pending tribunal, several opposition members have been protesting that Mr. Tinubu did not satisfy the constitutional criteria.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes in the February 25 election, reaching the 25% requirement of total votes in 29 states but failing to cross the barrier in the FCT.
