The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has directed MultiChoice Nigeria, the operator of DStv and GOtv, to suspend its planned subscription price hike pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

In a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the FCCPC emphasized that the directive aims to prevent potential consumer exploitation during the review period.

The regulatory body had previously summoned MultiChoice’s Chief Executive Officer to appear for an investigative hearing on February 27, 2025, regarding concerns over frequent price increases.

However, after the company requested an extension, the session has now been rescheduled for March 6, 2025. The FCCPC has mandated that MultiChoice’s CEO and relevant officials attend the hearing and submit a comprehensive response to the inquiry.

“As part of this directive, MultiChoice is expressly instructed to maintain the existing price structure as of February 27, 2025, pending the commission’s review and final determination on the matter,” the statement read.

MultiChoice had earlier informed customers about the impending price adjustment, attributing the changes to a review of its pricing structure.

The announcement led to concerns among subscribers, particularly regarding the increase in the DStv Compact package, while Compact Plus and Premium bouquets were set to remain at ₦30,000 and ₦44,500, respectively.

In its notice titled “Price Adjustments for DStv and GOtv Packages,” the company stated,
“Dear Customer, please note that effective March 1, 2025, there will be a price adjustment on all DStv packages. This is to enable us to continue offering our customers world-class homegrown and international content, delivered through the best technology.”

The FCCPC has assured consumers that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
