Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has criticised the Federal Government’s spending priorities, describing the ruling party’s “Emi Lokan” campaign slogan as the most absurd thing he has ever encountered.
Falz stated this during an interview with Arise Television correspondents on Tuesday, where he took issue with government officials citing pressure on the administration as an excuse for unmet promises.
The entertainer questioned the rationale behind heavy expenditure on vehicles and jets while insecurity persisted across the country.
“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets, and acquiring all these things and look at what has actually gone on with insecurity and what we’re facing, what are your priorities?” he said.
He condemned the notion that the government was under pressure, arguing that officials sought public office willingly and should not now complain about the demands of governance.
“Did anyone beg you to take up this? If I remember clearly, apart from the fact that this is public service, and you do everything within your power to campaign to enter into office, if I remember clearly, the campaign slogan for this administration was ‘Emi Lokan‘, he said.
He explained that the slogan translates to “It is my turn” in English, describing it as unprecedented in its absurdity.
“I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life. That means from day one, when you set out on your political journey, this is the day that you have been waiting for,” he said.
The “omoge” crooner wondered why government officials would then complain of pressure, having actively pursued the office they now occupy.
“So why can’t you come and say pressure is much on you? Are you okay?” he asked.
