Fabian Adibe, the ace Nigerian actor widely celebrated for his role in the acclaimed television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’, has passed away at the age of 81.

The news of his death was first announced on Wednesday through social media by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.

While initial reports did not specify a cause, his daughter Adibe Nkechi later confirmed on Thursday morning that he died after a brief illness.

In an Instagram post, Nkechi, the founder of Techaware Consult, paid tribute to her father.

“With a heavy heart, I’m sharing that Chief Fabian Adibe, my dad, passed away after a brief illness. He was the best father anyone could think of. May God grant him eternal rest and peace,” she wrote.

Born on December 1, 1943, in Owerri, Imo state, Adibe was a highly respected figure in the Nigerian film industry. He honed his craft by studying Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, where he received formal training in acting techniques.

His career spanned decades, but it was his performance in the 1987 NTA series adaptation of ‘Things Fall Apart’ that brought him into the national spotlight and cemented his place in Nigerian cultural history.

Beyond that iconic role, Adibe enjoyed a prolific career, appearing in a vast array of films. His notable works include ‘Broken Plate’, ‘Evil Desire’, ‘Peacemaker’, ‘Oke Belgium’, ‘The Prince and The Princess’, ‘Honourable’, ‘Billionaires Club’, and ‘Fire On The Mountain’.
