FAAN introduces sale of mandatory E-tags at airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the sale of e-tags that will allow admission into Nigeria’s 24 federal airports.

The sale is scheduled to begin today, May 17. The FAAN made the statement via its X handle on Friday.

According to eports, the FEC meetings on Monday and Tuesday resulted in the adoption of 21 policies and projects targeted at stimulating the economy, enabling investments, and improving the ease of doing business in the country.

Among these measures, the FEC approved a law requiring all users of federal airports across the country to pay tolls at the gates before entering, with no exceptions.

This policy will affect everyone, even the president and vice president.

According to the FAAN public release, the sale of e-tags is consistent with a presidential directive passed at the most recent Federal Executive Council meeting, which requires all users of federal airports around the country to pay tolls at the gates.

This comes in the midst of suffering caused by the elimination of subsidies and the flotation of the naira.

This difficulty drove the Nigeria Labour Congress to urge an increase in the minimum wage, which is now upsetting the administration.

According to the FAAN announcement, motorists who do not have E-tags will be able to pay cash at the airport’s access gates before entering, implying that defaulting drivers will be turned away.

The announcement also included contact information and locations for obtaining E-tags at Lagos and Abuja’s international airports.

The FAAN announcement reads, “At Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the public can obtain E-tags at the Office of the Head of Department of Commercial Operations, Terminal 1, 5th floor, or by calling 08033713796 or 08023546030.

“At Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, E-tags can be obtained at the HOD Commercial Office at the General Aviation Terminal or by calling 08034633527 or 08137561615.”
