Former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) amid an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure.

Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that the visit is connected to an active probe into alleged diversion of about N1.3 trillion said to have occurred while he served as governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023.

The former governor was previously arrested by the EFCC in November 2024 over the allegations. He is accused of diverting public funds and allegedly using state resources to acquire properties in Asaba and Abuja.

Okowa, however, has consistently denied wrongdoing, insisting that all funds under his administration were properly utilised.

Speaking after his earlier arrest, he said: “Whatever that is going on, I am not worried, and I have spoken about it. I am not afraid to be investigated,” Okowa had said.

He added: “I may not be a saint, but I know I stepped in there as governor with a full hope and desire to help people to give the best for ourselves in this state within the limit of our resources.”

Okowa governed Delta State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2015 to 2023 and later served as the running mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.

In April 2025, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other political officeholders in the state.

The EFCC has not issued an official detailed update on Monday’s visit at the time of filing this report, while the investigation remains ongoing, according to sources.
