    Ex-convict Omisakin returns to jail eight days after Osun state pardon

    Adebayo Omisakin Sunday, an ex-convict who was recently granted pardon, has been remanded in jail over alleged theft and burglary 

    Omisakin was among the 53 convicts granted pardon by Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, on December 26, 2024.

    His name was number eight on the list of those pardoned over “simple offences”.

    On January 3, 2025, eight days after he was granted pardon, Omisakin allegedly broke into a house in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, and stole a plasma television worth N600,000, The Nation reports.

    The police had charged Omisakin for alleged theft and burglary. During the court proceedings, the suspect pleaded not guilty.

    Najite Okobe, counsel to the defendant, urged the court to admit Sunday to bail in liberal terms.

    However, Kayode Adeoye, the police prosecutor, opposed the bail opposition.

    Adeoye told the court that the defendant was recently granted pardon by Adeleke before committing the crime.

    “On January 3, 2025, at about 12:00 p.m. at Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, Osogbo, Omisakin broke into the house of one Shittu Damilare and stole a plasma TV worth N600,000,” the police prosecutor said.

    “Governor just pardoned him a few days ago. He was sentenced to prison by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara and he was not done serving his jail term.”

    Adekanmi Adeyeba, the magistrate, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Ilesa correctional centre and adjourned the case to January 10.

    When the case was called on January 10, the magistrate denied Sunday bail and adjourned the case to February 2025.
