Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after winning a seat in the country’s March elections.
According to El Tiempo, Ortiz will represent the Norte de Santander region as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 parliamentary term. She secured her place in the Senate after ranking 23rd on the coalition’s closed electoral list.
The Historic Pact emerged as Colombia’s largest political force in the election, winning 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote. Official figures from the country’s National Registry showed the bloc received more than 4.4 million votes, earning 25 seats.
Before entering the adult entertainment industry, Omaña worked as a journalist. Throughout her campaign, she argued that her past career should not disqualify her from holding public office.
According to Infobae Colombia, the new senator has pledged to advocate for the rights and legal protection of people working in the adult entertainment industry. She said women involved in the sexual economy contribute to Colombia’s economy and deserve legal recognition rather than social stigma.
Responding to critics after her election victory, Omaña posted a TikTok video asking: “Why can’t a woman who worked in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?”
Born in Cúcuta, Omaña said her legislative priorities will also include improving mental health services and strengthening efforts to prevent sexual abuse.
Her rise to the Senate follows the appointment of herself and another former adult performer, Juan Carlos Florián, to positions in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro, a decision that generated widespread public debate.
