Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, has been urgently taken to the hospital following his collapse at the Government House in Yenagoa, the capital of the state.

It has been reported that the event took place on Thursday afternoon.

While the reason for the collapse remains unknown, sources characterized the situation as grave.

A source mentioned he was transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa for immediate medical care.

Nonetheless, this could not be verified independently because the hospital’s public relations officer, Ben Akpedi, failed to answer calls.

Upon being reached, the media assistant to the Deputy Governor, Doubara Atasi, acknowledged the situation but chose not to provide further information.

When asked to verify the incident, Atasi replied, “Yes,” and promptly disconnected the call.

Ewhrudjakpo was notably absent during Governor Douye Diri’s announcement of his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party in October.

Diri officially announced his exit from the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress with members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, but Ewhrudjakpo’s involvement and stance on the transition were not addressed.

Diri, who mentioned “clear reasons” for his resignation, did not elaborate on any complaints with the party.

His main Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, verified that the declaration occurred during an extended State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, which featured important officials like the Speaker of the House, Abraham Ingobere, and his assistant, Michael Ogbere.

Alabrah’s statement highlighted that the governor reached the decision following thorough discussions with state leaders and expressed gratitude to supporters for their enduring loyalty, encouraging them to stay involved as he aims to create a “strong and vibrant Bayelsa.”
