A social media user, Asake Mijimi, has shown discountenance over the forthcoming nuptial between Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, and his heartthrob, Chioma Rowland.
The Chioma and Davido traditional wedding is supposedly set for June 25, 2024, in Lagos, according to reports that surfaced on Tuesday.
Confirming the information in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday by his longtime friend and Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adeboyega, who resides in the UK, the happy groom asked his pals to join in the festivities.
In the video, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner was heard saying, “Guys, you have to come to Nigeria on the 25th [of June] for my wedding.”
Reacting to the news of the wedding, Mimiji, in a statement on X, alleged that the Afrobeats star’s wedding to Chioma would not have been acceptable if he were “fully’ Yoruba.
Her reaction may not be unconnected to the fact that while Davido is betrothed to Chioma, an Igbo lady, the “Aye” crooner has a baby with Sophia Momodu, a Yoruba woman.
However, Mijimi argued that Davido “is barely a Yoruba guy. His father is mixed with Ibo. His mother is Edo. Davido is mostly Ibo and Edo.”
She mentioned that a Yoruba family would frown at him and not allow him to marry an Igbo lady if he were Yoruba.
“The only true Yoruba person in the Adeleke family is Raji Ayoola Adeleke. Chioma is not marrying a Yoruba man. A Yoruba family won’t allow this from Davido,” Mijimi stated.
