The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been berated and described as a weak institution when handling high-profile crime cases.

In a statement on X on Tuesday, a social media influencer with the handle @trendwithola berated the EFCC for agreeing to an out-of-court settlement with celebrity barman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly called Cubana Chief Priest.

The influencer decried how Cubana Chief Priest gets a ‘backroom’ settlement for allegedly committing the same crime popular crossdresser Idris Olarenwaju, also known as Bobrisky, languishes in jail for.

Chronicle NG reports that the EFCC and Cubana Chief Priest have agreed to resolve the naira abuse accusation outside of court.

The out-of-court settlement was announced when the hearings resumed on Thursday.

Cubana Chief Priest appeared before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts of misusing the national currency at a social event.

These actions contradict the Central Bank Act of 2007.

He is accused of spraying and tampering with naira notes during a social function at Lagos’ Eko Hotel.

In reaction to the news, the influencer alleged that the “EFCC is a weak institution” when ‘money exchanges hands.’

“In this life, try to get money, but please, legitimately. Cuban Chief Priest just made us aware that the EFCC is a weak institution when money is involved. Bobrisky was just an unfortunate human being used as a scapegoat,” he wrote.

He also alleged that the embattled former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, would “still walk freely” after his case with the EFCC.

The embattled former governor of Kogi State stirred up social media with his school children’s invoice payment after allegations that he withdrew a large sum of money from the state’s coffers.

Bello paid $845,000 in school fees in advance for his children at the American International School of Abuja.

“The main reason EFCC vs. GYB is just social media drama is that no agreement has been reached yet. Yahaya Bello will still walk freely and contest as the President of Nigeria,” Ola said.
