His Excellency, Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State, has declared he is not afraid of being invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ortom, the outgoing governor of the state, made this assertion at a valedictory dinner held on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the old banquet hall, Government House, Makurdi.

The governor, who will soon relinquish power to the opposition, also urged his council members not to get jittery if invited by the EFCC at any moment.

“Anytime you are invited by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, don’t be afraid to go; as for me, I am not a coward that runs away from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission; if they come for me, I will follow them. I don’t have any investments in Europe. All I have is this state.

“If I have committed any crime, let the person come and show me”, he said.

In contrast to his counterparts in other states, the outgoing governor, who is not ready to dissolve his council, added that “by noon on May 29, when a new government takes over, everyone will find their way.

The outgoing governor thanked his council members for their contributions to his administration’s achievements over the last eight years. He also thanked them for the praise heaped on him and pledged that they would continue to build their connection.
