Nigerians have been reminded by the Federal Road Safety Corps to drive safely while celebrating Easter.

This was stated by the FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Biu in a statement dated Saturday in Abuja and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem.

Biu wished all Christians a happy Easter and urged thoughtful consideration of the importance of practicing love, especially on the road.

“I wish to seize the opportunity of the Easter celebration to call for deep reflection by people on the need for attitudinal change towards road safety and collective campaign against the menace of road traffic crashes in the country,” he said.

Biu also urged road users to observe traffic rules and regulations to ensure crash and obstruction-free festivities.

He said the call was necessary due to the high rate of speed-related crashes in the country.

The FRSC boss advised motorists to drive defensively by observing traffic rules and regulations to achieve the goal of zero fatalities during the festivities.

Biu said that the increase in human and vehicular movements across the country during Easter usually placed enormous pressure on the FRSC to effectively contain the traffic upsurge.

“I want to seriously appeal to motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.

“Appropriate measures have been put in place through massive deployments of personnel and logistics across the nation to give succor to road travelers.

“The objectives of the 2023 Easter special operations are to ensure zero fatality through enforcement,” he added.

Biu said there would be prompt removal of obstructions, enforcement of speeding, overloading, and seatbelt offenses, as well as violations on the use of mobile phones while driving and lane indiscipline.

“Adequate deployments of our personnel and logistics to effectively cover all the road networks in the country as well as the identified black spots have been put in place.

“It is our hope that our goal of zero fatality during the Easter celebration will be achieved,” he said.
