The Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu paid a visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, on Thursday to discuss gunmen’s recent attacks on the institute.

Disu was represented by Isyaku Muhammed, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) for Training and Development.

The IGP representative also serves as the coordinating DIG for the country’s North-Central zone.

Chronicle NG reports that gunmen on Tuesday morning killed two soldiers and a policeman at the institute.

The IGP expressed condolences to Prof. Ayo Omotayo, the Director General (DG), as well as NIPSS participants and staff, about the event.

Disu, who also expressed condolences to the families of the dead security men, promised to track down the offenders.

“I commiserate with you over the death of the three security personnel who lost their lives while safeguarding this great institute.

“I want to assure you that the police are doing everything possible to secure this community. So you can go about your lawful activities.

“The police and the military have done well so far in securing the environment, and we will fortify security around the vicinity,” he said.

The IGP promised to set up a police post within the institute to enable effective surveillance and timely response to threats.

In his response, Omotayo thanked the IGP for the visit.

He applauded the security agencies for their prompt response in averting the situation.

“We feel supported, relieved, and loved by this visit. From the night the attack occurred, every person that I called responded promptly.

“It is because of the prompt response that we were able to repel the attack,” he said.

Omotayo revealed that the attackers had earlier notified the institute of their coming.

“They told us that they were going to come, but we didn’t believe they would come. Even though we prepared for them.

“The police and military personnel didn’t run away, and by the time they came, we were ready for them.

“It’s unfortunate we lost three security personnel during the attack,” he said.

The director general, however, stated that normalcy had since returned to the institute and all activities had fully resumed.
