The Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has constituted a five-member interim board to oversee the affairs of Bayelsa United FC for the next six months following the club’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Diri had, two weeks ago, dissolved the club’s board during a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House, Yenagoa, after Bayelsa United was relegated at the end of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
Dr. Peter Akpe, Deputy Governor, announced the selection of the temporary board on Thursday during the weekly Prosperity Walk at Yenagoa’s Samson Siasia Stadium.
Akpe stated that the committee’s immediate goal was to ensure the club’s return to the NPFL within six months, emphasizing that Bayelsa United should not stay in the second tier for too long.
“The task is to bring Bayelsa United out of relegation and back to the Premiership, which is the rightful position of the club,” he said.
According to him, the interim board includes veteran football administrator Dr. Peter Singabele; former Director of Sports Sir Braveman Wodi; Director-General of the Prosperity Cup Ono Akpe; and Godson Ekarde, with Ken Ekpolaemi Odogu serving as secretary.
“Dr. Peter Singabele, Braveman Wodi, Godson Ekarde, Ono Akpe, and Ken Ekpolaemi Odogu have six months to return the team to the top division,” Akpe added.
The deputy governor also urged football stakeholders across the state to back the interim board and ensure the government-owned club’s speedy readmission to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
