Diego Costa says Antonio Conte texted him that he is not needed at Stamford Bridge next season

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is hours away from rejoining Atletico Madrid according to report from Portugal.

Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, who claim Atletico Madrid are hours away from announcing the signing.

Costa revealed last month that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte did not want him at the club next season.

Conte sent the controversial striker a text, which read: “Hi Diego, I hope you are well. Thanks for the seasono [sic] we spent together. Good luck for the next year but you are not in my plan.”

Alexandre Lacazette joins Arsenal for club record £46.5m
Atletico are currently under a transfer ban until January 2018.

They are able to register players but they are blocked from playing until the suspension ends.

O Jogo claim that the deal to take Costa back to his former club is close.

And, according to Spanish website AS, Atletico are considering sending Costa to China on a short-term loan deal until January.

It will be Costa’s third spell at the Spanish capital club.

He made his name as one of Europe’s top strikers during his second spell, scoring 36 goals in 52 appearances in the 2013/14 campaign.

That form earned him a move to Chelsea in 2014 and he’s scored 58 goals in total for the Blues.
