Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has apologized again to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, for his behavior during the recent All Progressives Congress primary election.
During a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders, the lawmaker begged and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in an attempt to reconcile with the APC leadership in Lagos.
According to a video posted by Lagos Junction on X on Sunday, Elliot expressed contrition for his actions, claiming he may have been misled during the primary.
The member representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly has also committed to remain faithful to the party’s leadership.
He said, “I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy.”
Gbajabiamila then asked the Lagos House of Assembly member to get up.
Recall that the legislator had apologized to Gbajabiamila during an interview on TVC’s Your View, stating that he may have upset his political mentor during his political activities.
Elliot stated that any misunderstanding between them was inadvertent and that he remains devoted to party unity and the advancement of his constituency.
“I’m not saying, ‘Oh, yes, media will come out,’ oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.
He added, “To err is human; to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”
The apology comes in the midst of political tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership issue, during which Gbajabiamila revealed that he had encountered difficulty at the Presidency due to reports of Elliot’s political activity.
Gbajabiamila claimed that President Bola Tinubu approached him about intelligence reports suggesting Elliot’s involvement in the Assembly speakership tussle, which he denied.
The situation, which stemmed from leadership conflicts inside the APC, was eventually resolved after senior party leaders intervened.
