Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has stated that former Governor James Ibori would be warmly welcomed into the All Progressives Congress if he decides to join.

Oborevwori, who officially defected to the APC on Monday alongside former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all Delta State Peoples Democratic Party members, urged Ibori to follow suit.

Although Ibori has allegedly been working for the APC for the past two years, he has yet to officially declare his defection.

Oborevwori stressed the importance of unity among the Urhobo political class during a vigil Mass in honour of the state’s former Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, conducted on Tuesday at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Otu-Jeremi, in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

He said, “We will welcome former Governor James Ibori to our party, the APC.”

Paying tribute to the late Prof. Amos Utuama, the governor praised his selfless service, stating, “I am very happy to be here today, seeing this large gathering for one man. The message today is not about the dead but about the living.”

The Delta State Governor prayed that the passing of Utuama would bring peace and unity to Ughelli South and the entire Urhobo nation.

He praised Utuama’s virtues, noting that he lived a purposeful life: “He lived well and died well.”
