Dele Momodu has denied claims that he intended to run as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s vice-presidential candidate, claiming he has no intention of contesting any election.

Momodu labeled the spreading claim as a distraction in a Facebook post on Thursday, urging fans to disregard it.

“When I first received this poster from a friend, I dismissed it as a joke designed to distract us… I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honor of ignoring this joke,” he said.

He added, “I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties to work together and oust the incompetent APC government.”

Momodu stated that he would instead back candidates within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, adding that the party had “more than enough leaders” who are more qualified to run.

His views come as political realignment intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition politicians considering alliance alternatives to fight the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Momodu further criticized Atiku’s “bullying,” pointing out that Peter Obi ran with him in 2019.

He advised restraint in political speech, warning against aggressive language across party lines, including attacks on President Bola Tinubu.

Momodu stated that he will support whoever candidate emerges from his party, but that his primary emphasis remains on coalition building within the opposition.

The development highlights continued efforts within the opposition to strengthen alliances and overcome internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
