David Parradang, a former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, was killed by gunmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

A source within the service confirmed his death to reporters, adding that plans were ongoing to pay his family a condolence visit.

“I don’t know exactly how he died, but we are planning to visit his family to offer our condolences,” a source told me.

When contacted, Josephine Adeh, a spokesman for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, promised to respond but had not done so as of the time of reporting this article.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Parradang was kidnapped in the early hours of Tuesday in the Area 1 axis of Abuja.

A spokesperson for the Nigerian Immigration Service, A.S. Akinlabi, promised to return calls but has yet to do so.

The assailants trailed Parradang from a bank where he had withdrawn money and took the cash.

“The tragic incident has raised fresh concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly regarding the increasing cases of kidnappings and targeted attacks,” Makama stated in a post.

Parradang, who served in the NIS for over 30 years, occupied numerous posts across the country before becoming Comptroller-General.
