The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has quietly adjusted the effective price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by offering a N10 rebate per litre to its customers.
Although the publicly announced ex-depot price remains N835 per litre, sources confirmed on Monday that marketers are effectively paying N825 per litre after receiving a N10 refund post-loading.
“The Dangote refinery has started giving a rebate on its products. It’s not an official reduction yet, but paid back after marketers buy products from them,” an official disclosed.
This discreet rebate allows marketers to sell petrol within a band of N830 to N835 per litre, giving them a pricing edge over importers and private depot operators.
Last month, the refinery had twice slashed its gantry price by a total of N45 — from N880 to N835 per litre — following the reinstatement of the Naira-for-Crude supply arrangement with local refiners, which had previously been suspended.
Efforts to reach Dangote Group’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, for official comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
The rebate strategy appears to be part of broader efforts to enhance market competitiveness while maintaining official pricing structures.
