Dangote petrol price hits N874/ltr amid global oil surge

The Dangote petrol price has climbed sharply after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased its ex-gantry rate to N874 per litre.

Sources at the facility confirmed the refinery raised the petrol price by N100, moving from N774 per litre to N874 per litre.

“The refinery increased its ex-gantry petrol price to N874 per litre,” a source familiar with the development said.

The petrol price hike comes as global crude oil markets react to worsening tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude surged to around $79 per barrel, pushing up costs across the downstream oil and gas sector.

The supply shock deepened after QatarEnergy announced it had halted liquefied natural gas production following Iranian military attacks on its facilities.

Similarly, Saudi Aramco shut down its Ras Tanura refinery after debris from an Iranian drone attack triggered a fire.

Shipping disruptions have compounded the crisis. Major container lines suspended sailings through the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal over mounting security risks.

The escalation followed US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets that reportedly killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Abdolrahim Mousavi, Iran’s supreme leader and armed forces chief of staff.

Iran has since launched retaliatory missile strikes across the region, heightening fears of a broader conflict that could further disrupt global oil supply and fuel prices in Nigeria.
