    Cultists kill police officer in Lagos

    Cultists on the rampage on Wednesday murdered a 38-year-old police Inspector assigned to Zone 2, Police Command, Onikan Lagos, in the Ijanikin neighborhood of Lagos. 

    According to reports, the dead officer, a father of three from Otukpo Local Government in Benue State, joined the Nigerian police service in 2004.

    According to an eyewitness, the inspector was hacked with an axe before being shot.

    According to a colleague of the slain police officer who spoke with reporters at the scene on Monday morning, the gangsters hacked his left hand and head with an axe before shooting him in the head.

    Abike, a female neighbor, described the deceased police officer as an affable person. She said he was a very calm man. Adding that It’s sad he was murdered in this manner by a cultist.

    A landlord in the Alasia neighborhood, Adewale Abass, stated that following the policeman’s murder, stores in the community were locked and keyed for fear of being detained by the officers who stormed the community on Monday.

    He also urged the Commissioner of Police to intervene in the actions of cultists in the community, which he described as disturbing. He regretted that cultists went on a killing rampage while the previous Divisional Police Officer was romancing cultists and Yahoo guys.

    SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, said, “One of the suspects involved in the incident has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who are currently at large.”
