Coventry City claimed their first Premier League points of the season by grinding out a win over Nottingham Forest, sealed by Jay Dasilva’s second-half strike.
The newly promoted Sky Blues had been beaten in all four of their earlier matches—shipping 10 goals without scoring any—after returning to the top flight for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign.
Yet Frank Lampard’s team survived a first half in which Forest were dominant, even if it lacked any real clear-cut chances, and then struck 10 minutes into the second half.
A neat touch from Dasilva, after chasing down a long ball, let him cut inside Daniel Munoz, and he then produced a clinical finish past Matz Sels, who had tried to close down the angle.
Earlier, Forest had carried a threat through Dan Ndoye and Liam Delap, both of whom curled shots wide of the post, while visiting keeper Carl Rushworth made a smart save from Neco Williams.
Oliver Glasner’s men—still without a win at the City Ground this season—came close again after falling behind, and only a spectacular clearance by Bobby Thomas kept out Igor Jesus’ goal-bound attempt.
Forest then believed they had levelled with four minutes of normal time left, when Jesus converted after Caleb Yirenkyi went down in the box.
The referee, however, ruled that the Coventry player’s fall had been caused by the Forest man, following a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
The result lifted Coventry off the bottom of the table—above Fulham and Tottenham—into 18th, while Forest sits 12th.
