A 28-year-old man was remanded in Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly breaking into a cemetery and stealing iron rods used to bury a body in a grave, valued at N1.1 million.

Mubarak Kajola, whose residence was not provided, was arraigned on a three-count complaint, including illegal trespass, theft, and possession of guns.

He, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the accusations.

Earlier, Insp. Funmi Akinleye, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant “illegally, improperly, and indecently” broke into the Ayobo Cemetery and tampered with dead remains.

She said that on August 11, the defendant damaged the slabs used to bury dead corpses and took the iron rods, valued at N1.1 million, from the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Area.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was equipped with a plastic imitation firearm.

According to Akinleye, the offences violated sections 165(b), 280(1), 287, 312(a)(b), and 312(a)(b).

Mrs. Oyenike Fajana, the Magistrate, directed that the defendant be detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

She rescheduled the case until August 17 for trial and sentence.
