Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has criticized Nigerians for what he called their inability to hold leaders accountable.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, the singer stated that he had never come across a country with a greater proportion of foolish citizens than Nigeria.
Charly Boy, who is also called Area Fada, went on to list what he described as the indicators of a nation in decline.
“Nigeria is a country where good roads are treated as a luxury. A country where people with steady electricity are classified as the rich. And a country where the price of food can jump from N10,000 to N100,000 overnight with no questions asked. And you call that a country?” he said.
The entertainer raised doubts about the part citizens play in the matter, contending that a nation is impossible without them.
“Now tell me, can a nation exist without its citizens? No. Then what are the citizens doing? Watching creators make jokes and normalizing the breakdown. And watching corrupt leaders campaign only to turn out and cheer them on. What a shame,” he said.
He described Nigeria as a great country blessed with abundant resources, yet held back by weak leadership and citizens without a voice.
