Canada has stated that it will accept up to 10,000 complete visa applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2025.
Under this policy, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency.
To be eligible, sponsors must be at least 18 years old, earn the requisite income, and make a commitment to financially assist their parents or grandparents.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) supervises the program, which allows for family reunification.
The Super Visa is still available to those who desire to spend extended periods of time with their parents and grandparents without obtaining permanent status.
The Super Visa permits repeated admissions into Canada during a ten-year period, with each visit lasting up to five years.
The IRCC recently simplified the Super Visa application process by modifying the health insurance requirements.
Super Visa applicants must apply from outside of Canada and meet temporary residence conditions.
In addition, they must produce documentation of valid health insurance from an approved provider.
If coverage expires before departure, visa holders may need to renew their insurance to be eligible.
