Nigeria’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari is plotting to impeached the recently defected Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The party claimed it was privy to a meeting between Buhari and some senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress where the plot was schemed.

PDP says Buhari’s planned 10-day vacation in London will be used as an alibi to exonerate him from the plan.

“President Buhari’s two-week vacation in London was designed as an alibi to exonerate him from planned political illegalities, forceful invasion and mayhem about to be visited on the polity and particularly, the national assembly,” the party claimed.

The PDP added that, “We are aware of plots already perfected in a meeting, on Wednesday night, between the Nigeria President and some compromised APC senators, who are now in the minority, to forcefully reconvene the Senate with protection from security agencies, with a view to impeach the Senate President.”

Although the PDP claimed that APC senators are minority in the upper chamber, it is a known fact that the APC has more senators that the PDP and that the PDP is the minority in the senate.

Reacting to PDP, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant, Media & Publicity to President Buhari tweeted, “Claims by the failing PDP that President Muhammadu Buhari had taken a 10-day leave in order to leave the stage for illegal and unconstitutional actions by the administration are both ridiculous and a hollow narrative to garner cheap sympathy.

“That the President, himself a sworn democrat had handed power to his deputy without compulsion is itself exemplary and innovative, something that the PDP failed to produce in their sixteen years of monumental mismanagement and sadistic plunder.”
