Renowned activist and leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has described the legacy left behind by the deceased ex-president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, as “terrible”.

Sowore, in a statement on his official Facebook page, on Sunday, mentioned that his time in charge of the affairs of Nigeria, both as a military head of state and a civilian president, “left deep scars on Nigeria’s democratic fabric”.

His comment comes after the former Nigerian leader died in a UK hospital on Sunday after a protracted battle with leukemia.

Relating to the death of the Katsina state-born politician, Sowore mentioned that “Buhari’s legacy remains one of repression.”

Describing him as a “religious bigot”, Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, added that the former Nigerian president threw the country into “economic hardship and insecurity”.

In his statement titled “Buhari is dead. He left behind a terrible legacy,” Sowore wrote, “former Nigerian president and ex-military dictator Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly died in a UK clinic.

“Sources indicate the cause of death was blood cancer (leukemia.)

“A man whose rule – both in uniform and civilian garb – left deep scars on Nigeria’s democratic fabric, Buhari’s legacy remains one of repression, economic hardship, insecurity and religious bigotry.”

Sowore alleged that “Muhammadu Buhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women and even children.

“He ordered soldiers of the HQ Nigerian Army to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag.

“He ordered the massacre of young Southeasterners he branded IPOB.

“He disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy and ruined everything he touched.”

Sowore also berated Nigerians who, according to him, are clamouring for Buhari to be mourned on his passing.

“And now because he’s dead, some people with selective memory want us to mourn or worship him?” he queried.

“Shameful. No, we do not mourn tyrants,” he added.
