Nigeria’s acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura with immediate effect.

A statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity to Osinbajo said Daura will hand over immediately.

“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice,” the statement said.

Daura’s dismissal comes hours masked operatives of the DSS barricaded the national assembly barring federal lawmakers from gaining entrance to the complex.

Reacting to the invasion of the national assembly by the DSS, Osinbajo said, “According to him, the unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency is condemnable and completely unacceptable.”

Osinbajo described the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex earlier today as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all accepted notions of law and order.

Daura was appointed following Ita Ekpeyong’s dismissal on July 2, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He began his career in 1982 at the State Security Service where he rose to the position of director.

In 2003, he was appointed, Deputy Director Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre at the Presidential Villa, a position he held till 2007.

Born on August 1953 in Daura, a town in Katsina State, Northern Nigeria, he received a bachelor’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University in 1980 and also trained at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Nigeria.
