AFC Bournemouth have confirmed Marco Rose as their next head coach on a three-year contract, with the German expected to succeed Andoni Iraola at the end of the season.

The move puts an end to weeks of debate over the club’s long-term orientation, following confirmation that Iraola will leave this summer after declining to extend his contract.

In a statement obtained from the club’s website on Monday, Bournemouth said: “Marco Rose is an experienced and highly respected head coach with a proven record at the highest level of European football. We are delighted to appoint him as our new manager and believe he is the right fit to continue our progress.”

Rose, 49, enters after leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025. He previously managed Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Red Bull Salzburg, where he was known for aggressive pressing strategies and nurturing youthful talent.

After his job was finalized, Rose expressed his excitement about the prospect of working in the Premier League.

“This is a fantastic club with a clear identity and ambition,” Rose said. “I’ve followed Bournemouth’s progress closely, and the energy around the team is very impressive. My goal is to build on what has already been achieved and help take the club to the next level.”

Iraola, who will be in charge until the end of the season, also reflected on his experience with the club.

“It has been a privilege to work at Bournemouth,” he said. “We have built something special together, and I’m proud of the way the players and staff have developed. For now, the focus is on finishing the season strongly.”

The club allegedly considered other possibilities, including Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Inigo Perez of Rayo Vallecano, before deciding on Rose because of his Champions League expertise and track record of rising clubs who compete above expectations.

Bournemouth are now seeking to build on a successful Premier League season, with European qualifying still possible as the season nears its end.
