Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu resumed as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on Friday after being appointed by President Bola Tinubu.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who formerly served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, was promoted following the departure of former Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned on March 30 to pursue his governorship ambitions in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 election.
According to a statement published in Abuja by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokeswoman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the minister was greeted upon arrival by top directors of the ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary, Dunoma Ahmed, as well as leaders of ministry agencies.
The Nigerian Diaspora Commission, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Technical Aid Corps, the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa, and the Foreign Service Academy were among the organizations represented.
Ahmed welcomed Bianca , describing her appointment as a testament to her dedication and professionalism and expressing confidence in her capacity to develop Nigeria’s diplomatic and international partnerships.
He also assured her of the ministry’s cooperation in achieving the federal government’s foreign policy priorities, such as protecting Nigerians abroad, promoting peace and security, and attracting international investment.
The heads of the ministry’s agencies, as well as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the Economic Community of West African States, Olawale Emmanuel Awe, presented goodwill remarks.
In her remarks, Odumegwu-Ojukwu praised the ministry’s workforce for the reception and promised to consolidate the ministry’s successes during the Tinubu administration.
The announcement stated that she “reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining and consolidating the achievements of the Ministry under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The minister also emphasized the importance of professionalism, institutional efficiency, creativity, and unity in handling global issues and advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad.
