The Presidency has formally ruled out the idea of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Betta Edu rejoining President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesman, made the statement during a Sunday edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

This revelation puts an end to months of anticipation that she would be reinstated to her prior job.

Tinubu sacked the minister in January amid a nationwide outrage over an alleged $585 million fraud.

The president has ordered a thorough probe into the alleged fraud within her ministry, promising to “decisively punish” any people implicated in breaches or infractions discovered throughout the investigations.

On the live program, Onanuga revealed that Edu’s case has been concluded.

The newly appointed minister, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, a former Plateau State governorship contestant, has been appointed to take up her role permanently.

He stated, “I think there is another person from Cross River in the cabinet. Betta Edu is gone. Don’t forget that she was suspended in January, and this is October.

“No, she is gone. Her position has been taken over by someone else—that’s the man from Plateau (Nentawe) who is now assuming the role. For this government, there is no place for her in the cabinet.”

Onanuga added that “The EFCC has not shared whatever they have, but if you consider the president’s action, it suggests that the EFCC may have submitted something that justified the president’s decision.”
