Yahaya Bello was a better governor than Peter Obi – Suleiman Umar

The former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been described as a better governor during his eight-year tenure compared to his Anambra State counterpart, Peter Obi.

In a statement on X on Thursday, Suleiman Eneai Umar said that, unlike Obi, the embattled Kogi state governor brought meaningful development to the state.

He mentions that while Obi’s greatest achievement as a two-term governor was the building of a $50 million brewery for Anambra people to “drink and get drunk,” the immediate past governor of Kogi State built schools, hospitals, and universities, among other things.

“Don’t ever compare Yahaya Bello to Peter Obi in terms of governance,” Umar said.

“Yahaya Bello built six modern secondary schools, two universities, six modern hospitals, and more.

“Peter Obi built a Hero beer company worth $50 million so the good people of Anambra can drink and get drunk,” he added.

The embattled former governor of Kogi State has stirred up social media with his school children’s invoice payment after allegations that he withdrew a large sum of money from the state’s coffers.

Bello paid $845,000 in school fees in advance for his children at the American International School of Abuja.

Recall that the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, claimed on Tuesday that an investigation by the anti-graft agency revealed that Bello is culpable.

Following a failed attempt to arrest him in his Abuja residence last week on Wednesday and the ex-governor’s absence from the Federal High Court, where he was scheduled to be arraigned last Thursday, the EFCC declared him wanted.

Bello insists that the EFCC’s attempt to arrest and prosecute him for an alleged N80.2bn fraud violated a February 6 order of the Federal High Court in Lokoja restraining the anti-graft agency, and he has been on the run.
