Promise Dikko, the winner of Miss UNIJOS 2024, is grieving the loss of her fiancé, whom she said was killed by bandits just months before their planned wedding.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the UNIJOS student disclosed that her betrothed was fatally attacked by bandits.
She shared a photo of the couple together, in which her late fiancé is dressed in ceremonial military attire.
Describing him as “my hero,” Promise said she has now become another victim of Nigeria’s deepening insecurity crisis.
Although she did not specify when the incident occurred, she added that they were supposed to wed in December.
“Rip my hero. I kept this photo to post it when it close to wedding date,” she wrote.
“27th December was supposed to be the date. We have made prep and bookings. But you left me?
“Bandit killed you for me. Nigeria happened to me. Rest easy my hero.”
Her loss comes amid a surge in banditry and kidnappings across several Nigerian states.
Last month, suspected bandits attacked schools in Orire LGA, abducting about 39 students and seven teachers, an incident that sparked nationwide protests by the Nigerian Union of Teachers.
In response to growing public outrage, security operatives have intensified efforts to curb the violence.
On Wednesday, police rescued five kidnapped residents from the Paze community in the Federal Capital Territory after a gun battle with bandits, killing two suspected gang members and arresting two others.
