The wife of a former councillor, Hassana Saudaki and her eight-month-old baby have been abducted from their residence in Zamfara state.

The victim’s husband, Babangida Damba the former councillor of Tudun-Wada Gusau ward, stated that the unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday.

According to him, the bandits invaded their residence at the Government Residential Quarter in Damba, shooting him and his 26-year-old wife.

The former councillor added that the bandits (about four in number) came in around 12 midnight, shooting sporadically for over an hour before whisking away his wife and son to an unknown location.

Hon Damba said he alerted the police immediately but they did not show up until 3am when the gunmen were long gone.

He also said he recovered 17 used ammunition and one live ammunition which the gunmen fired at the main door of the house to force it open to access the sitting room.

Kidnapping and banditry have become a norm in Zamfara State.

Most popular among bandits’ victims are school children because they are soft targets.

These criminals have no regard for class as they abduct both high and low class individuals.

It can be recalled that Chronicle NG reported the kidnapping of an APC chieftain in Niger state as well as that of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy of the state within 24 hours.

While the state government had admitted that insecurity has worsened in the state, it blamed past governments for failing to resolve the security challenges – especially clashes between herders and farmers.
