Ayra Starr, the Nigerian singer, has confirmed her relocation to New York City.

During a recent interview on Hot 93.7FM’s Buck N Regg, the 23-year-old artiste, born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, revealed that she moved to New York less than two months ago.

She added that while she is still settling in, her spirit has always belonged to the city.

“I do live in New York. I moved in officially less than two months ago. I’m always in New York regardless,” she said.

“New York reminds me so much of Lagos. There are a lot of Nigerians here. There is a huge African diaspora, so it feels like home.

“I was skeptical about moving to New York at first. I remember being on stage and feeling like I might actually move here. It felt like a moment of surrender. I realised I really like it here—I love it.

“I know my priorities. I know why I’m here. And I’m here for a good time.

“I’m still furniture-shopping. I have plans. I have a couch and a bed. And I have a grand piano. That’s all I need for now.”

Ayra Starr became a viral sensation following the release of her 2021 hit, Bloody Samaritan.

Signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, she was discovered after the label head was struck by her originality.
