Nottingham Forest delivered a counter-attacking masterclass to secure a commanding 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking their sixth consecutive Premier League win.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s stoppage-time strike capped a clinical display from the Tricky Trees, who now sit level on points with second-placed Arsenal.

Wolves, led by new manager Vítor Pereira, hoped to extend his unbeaten start after replacing Gary O’Neil, but Forest had other plans.

Nottingham Forest struck early, taking the lead in the seventh minute through Morgan Gibbs-White, who returned to haunt his former club. After combining with Anthony Elanga, the 24-year-old fired past the Wolves goalkeeper, silencing the Molineux crowd.

Despite falling behind, Wolves responded with intent but lacked a cutting edge. Hwang Hee-chan’s darting run created a golden chance for Jørgen Strand Larsen, who failed to convert.

Moments later, Rodrigo Gomes tested Matz Sels with a powerful volley, but the Forest goalkeeper was equal to the task, later denying Larsen’s close-range header.

Forest punished Wolves’ profligacy just before halftime with another devastating counter. Callum Hudson-Odoi surged into the box and set up Chris Wood, who swept home his 12th league goal of the season, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Wolves pushed hard in the second half but were met with stubborn resistance from Forest’s backline, marshaled by Sels and Nikola Milenković. Elliott Anderson came close to adding a third for the visitors, narrowly missing the target with a driven effort.

Awoniyi, introduced as a substitute, ensured a fitting end for Forest in stoppage time. After combining with James Ward-Prowse, the Nigerian forward slotted the ball into an empty net, securing an emphatic win.

The victory lifts Nottingham Forest to 40 points, trailing Arsenal only on goal difference. Wolves, meanwhile, remain perilously close to the relegation zone, with a daunting schedule ahead for Pereira’s side.
