Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has made a full return to training after recovering from a serious abdominal injury that sidelined him in May.

The 27-year-old was out of action after suffering a ruptured intestine, a condition that necessitated a two-stage surgical operation.

The first phase of the procedure, conducted in May, was followed by an induced coma to ensure close monitoring by medical personnel.

The second phase of the surgery—focused on wound closure—was successfully carried out three days later, allowing Awoniyi to begin a challenging recovery process.

The nature of the injury and the complexity of the procedures raised concern over the striker’s long-term fitness.

However, on Tuesday, the Soar Super Eagles confirmed his return via a post on X, formerly Twitter, “Taiwo Awoniyi returns to full training after that serious abdominal injury in May. Great to see him back on the grass.”

His comeback is seen as a major boost for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for the new Premier League season, and also for the Super Eagles as they look ahead to crucial international fixtures.
