At least seven persons lost their lives in a lone auto crash on Kaltungo-Cham Road in Gombe State.
Mr. Samson Kaura, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, verified the event on Thursday in Gombe.
He reported that 31 other people were injured in the lone caravan crash, which occurred at 7:30 a.m. Kaura blamed the disaster on the alleged brake failure of the vehicle transporting soft drinks and 38 people, including 34 men, two women, and two children.
He claimed the fatalities included five men, one woman, and a child, and that the bodies had been put at the mortuary of the General Hospital Kaltungo, where 31 injured people were receiving medical attention.
He warned Nigerians against joining trailers to decrease exorbitant transportation charges, saying, “Always consider the cost of road traffic c and loss of life, as well as how much you will pay for transportation.
“Only a lone crash and we have many casualties; we spent a whole day attending to the situation.
“We advise against using trailers to travel because they (travellers) want to avoid paying the high cost of transportation.
“Please stop joining trailers or heavy-duty vehicles. They are not meant to convey humans, but goods,” he said.
