A Nigerian soldier identified as Daniel Somtochukwu has complained over the alleged arrest, brutalization, and torture of residents of Obikabia by operatives of the Nigerian Army. In a statement on X on Saturday, Somtochukwu lamented over the fierce reaction of the Nigerian Army to bringing to book the culprits of the Obikabia attack on soldiers in Abia State. Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has criticised the Nigerian military and government for the country’s continuous insecurity.  In a message posted on her X account on Saturday, Ezekwesili offered sympathy to the families of soldiers murdered in Abia and demanded an explanation from the military and the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for their failure to address the ongoing violence. Nigerians have criticized the Nigerian Army for allegedly going on a rampage, arresting, and killing innocent youths in Obikabia, following the killing of soldiers in the community.  In a series of comments and videos on X on Saturday, Nigerians alleged that operatives of the Nigerian Army arrested several young men in the region in retaliation for the killing of five soldiers by suspected IPOB members. Rose Agwu, a Nigerian medical practitioner, has called for help after soldiers allegedly invaded her home in Abia State and arrested her 15-year-old brother and sister.  Agwu, who lives near Obikabia Junction in the Aba part of the state, said the soldiers burst into her home and seized her siblings, leaving just her 72-year-old father at around 5 a.m. on Friday. Joe Igbokwe, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticised activist Aisha Yesufu for what he considers disrespectful attitude towards the new national anthem.  Yesufu, known for her activism, declined to sing the national anthem “Nigeria we hail thee” during an event, instead chose to sit down while others stood to honour the anthem. The Rivers State Police Command has announced that one suspect, Emeka, has been detained for allegedly raping and killing a pregnant woman, Mrs. Chigbewejim Steward.  The culprit was claimed to have arrived with a gang of guys who raped the woman to death in the Abarikpo community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has cancelled the 10,000 jobs in the State Civil Service approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, stating that a new recruitment procedure will be conducted.
