Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, reported 401 suspected cholera cases in the state, with 21 recorded deaths.  The highest numbers were recorded in Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa, according to a statement signed by Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, Director of Public Affairs at the State Ministry of Health. Cholera is a food- and water-borne disease caused by consuming the bacteria Vibrio cholerae from contaminated water and food. The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, has reserved ruling in the suit between Martin Amaewhule and 24 others against Victor Oko-Jumbo and others. The appeals court resolved on Thursday to deliver its ruling at a later date. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, refuted reports that the Police Service Commission and the police were at odds over the just-ended recruitment process.  Additionally, Egbetokun stated that he must guarantee the highest calibre of hiring for the police force in his capacity as Inspector General of Police of the biggest police force in Africa. A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has postponed its ruling on the legitimacy of the Kano Emirates Council Repeal Law 2024 until 2 p.m. today.  The judgement was originally scheduled for 12 p.m. but was relocated before midday, as reported by the court clerk to all parties involved in the dispute. In May 2024, the average price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), generally known as petrol, increased by 223.21% to around ₦770 per litre, up from ₦238.11 per litre in the same period in 2023. The National Bureau of Statistics announced this in its report, Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for May 2024. According to the report, the monthly price for petrol increased by 9.75% from ₦701.24 per litre in April 2024. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said that the state’s 23 local government councils will operate from alternative secretariats following the police closure of the councils on Tuesday.  The governor, speaking after swearing in the 23 local government caretaker committee chairmen on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, stated that they may operate from anywhere.
