Atsi Kefas, the sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, died tragically after being “accidentally shot” by a police escort during an attempted bandit attack, sources say.  The incident occurred last Thursday on Kente Road in Taraba State’s Wukari Local Government Area while Atsi Kefas and the governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, were travelling. The Supreme Court of Zambia has barred former President Edgar Lungu from running for re-election in 2026.  The Supreme Court found that the 68-year-old legislator had already completed the maximum two terms allowed by law. Lungu was first elected president in January 2015, serving the final 20 months of his predecessor’s term. President Michael Sata died in office in October 2014. Lungu contended that this should not count because he did not fulfil the entire five-year tenure. The magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has denied Dele Farotimi, a human rights activist, bail. Farotimi was charged with alleged defamation of the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola. At the resumed sitting on Tuesday, the presiding magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, delayed the bail application till December 20 after the police lawyer, Samson Osobu, demonstrated that the defendant’s bail application was incompetent and irregular. Rohan Dennis, a former world champion cyclist, has pleaded guilty to a car accident in Australia that killed his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins.  Hoskins died in the hospital on December 30, 2023, after being hit by a vehicle driven by Dennis outside their home in Adelaide. Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s bail application was rejected by a Federal Capital Territory High Court on Tuesday due to procedural irregularities.  Justice Maryanne Anenih ruled that the application was filed prematurely, as Bello was not present in court or in custody.
