Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, disclosed on Sunday that he was poisoned at the secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Wike stated this during a special Thanksgiving service organized by his family at the St. Peters Deanery, Rumuepirikom, in the Obio-Akpor area of the state. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked reports making the rounds that it has declared the immediate past governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle wanted. In a June 18, 2023 statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media & Publicity of the EFCC, the commission stated that the Commission has yet to announced Matawalle wanted or solicit the assistance of any Agency, including the DSS, to effect his arrest. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and other 13 former governors in the 10th Senate to disclose the total amount of life pensions, if any, that have been receiving from their states as former governors”.  SERAP is also urging them to “promptly clarify if” they have collected and/or currently collecting life pensions as former governors from” their “respective states, to stop collecting any such pensions and return the pensions collected to the treasury”. In a press release signed by Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), the DSS said it has unraveled clandestine plans by some unscrupulous individuals and groups aiming to disparage the DSS and the Federal Government over the arrest of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The member representing Chukun Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Garba Madami, has reportedly died a few days after the inauguration of the Assembly.
