The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has denied claims that Adeniran Adeyemi, statistician-general of the federation, was invited for questioning by the Department of State Services (DSS). The development comes amid the release of a controversial report on ransom payments in Nigeria. On December 17, the NBS published its crime experience and security perception survey. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says the hack of the website of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is “suspicious”. In a statement released on Thursday, Abubakar said the development “adds up to the bad tidings that have characterized the President Bola Tinubu administration”. Former President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed reports linking him to a plot of land which was revoked by the authorities of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja. Point-of-sale (PoS) operators across Nigeria have increased withdrawal charges from N100 to N250 or N,300 for every N5,000 transaction. The operators attribute the hike to the N50 electronic money transfer levy imposed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on financial technology (fintechs) companies. In September, fintech companies announced plans to introduce a N50 stamp duty fee on transactions of N10,000 and above.
