The Labour Party slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, claiming that the electoral body came up with the idea of reconfiguring the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines on purpose after its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, sought to examine the election materials. The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of 29 fishermen in the state by Boko Haram terrorists. The attack, which occurred in Mukdolo village in the Gamborun Ngala area of the state, also critically injured nine other fishermen. The Ivory Coast has signed an agreement with the UAE renewable energy company Masdar to investigate the development of a 50-70 megawatt (MW) solar power plant, Masdar announced on Friday, the latest in a series of African agreements. The West African cocoa-producing country has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32% and increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to more than 40% by 2030. Mali’s gold exports increased by 8.4% in 2022, reflecting an increase in industrial gold production over the same period, according to data released by the country’s statistics agency on Friday. According to media reports, the West African country exported 69.3 tonnes of gold last year, up from 63.9 tonnes in 2021. The metal accounts for roughly a quarter of the country’s fiscal resources.
