The Nigerian government has declared Monday, 10 October 2022 as public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration in commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to help provide a more conducive environment for teachers in the State. The House also urged the Governor to ensure prompt payment of pension to retired teachers as a way to celebrate them for their roles in the society. The Defence Headquarters says troops of Guard Brigade, Nigerian Army, on October 1, apprehended 64 suspects who attempted to disrupt the Independence Day Celebration in Abuja. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, said this at the bi-weekly news briefing on the operations of the armed forces on Thursday, in Abuja. Danmadami said the troops raided Karshi hill and surrounding villages in the Federal Capital Territory following intelligence on plans by the hoodlums to disrupt the Independence anniversary celebration. Troops of “Operation Hadin Kai” apprehended at least 79 terrorists and their collaborators in the Northeast in the last two weeks. Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, made the declaration in Abuja on Thursday at the bi-weekly news briefing on the operations of the armed forces. Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Thursday, withdrew an attempted murder suit filed against his estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu. Prosecution counsel, John Ijagbemi, told Justice Inyang Ekwo of a Federal High Court, Abuja shortly after the matter was called for the defendants to take a plea. “The matter was slated for re-arraignment of the defendants today. “However, we want to plead to your lordship for the withdrawal of the case,” he said. A faction of the universities union, Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA) has ordered its members to resume work, assuring them that all their salaries will be paid by the federal government. The Federal Government says plans are ongoing to add additional 817 Megawatts (MWs) of electricity to the national grid to boost the power supply within the FCT and its environs. Mr Sule Abdulaziz, the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), said this in Abuja while inspecting ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday.
