Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Joe Biden of the United States to exercise his powers “pursuant to the Presidential Proclamations 7750 and 8697 and the Immigration and Nationality Act to ban Nigerian officials, politicians and other perpetrators and sponsors of violence during the just concluded elections.” SERAP also urged Mr. Biden to “use the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act to block or revoke the visas of anyone suspected to be responsible for cases of intimidation, harassment and violence during the elections, and to impose asset freezes and property sanctions on them and their families.” The…

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports that it has extended the voting period in 16 states. A purported statement claiming that INEC had extended the voting period for the presidential and national assembly polls was making the rounds on social media. Festus Okoye, INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, he said the message is “fake”. The All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu has failed to deliver his polling unit in the presidential election in Nasarawa state. The Senate President, Ahamd Lawan also failed to win for the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu at his own polling unit in Yobe state. Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate won at one of the polling units inside the Kaduna State Government House with 69 votes. The former vice-president defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu at the polling 013. The APC candidate managed 40 votes, eight less than the Labour Party who polled 48 while New Nigeria Peoples Party managed 11 votes. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has failed to deliver his polling unit to Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate. Gbajabiamila who voted at ward 08, polling unit 014 on Saturday could not get his constituency to support Tinubu, his political benefactor.
