The Lagos State Government has closed the Alaba International Market due to, among other things, inadequate trash disposal practises. Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, purportedly dodged an assassination attempt on his route to an official engagement from Lokoja, the state capital, on Sunday. The electoral victory of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, who represents Plateau North- Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has been overturned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The three-member panel led by Justice Daudu Williams ruled unanimously that the PDP did not legitimately nominate Mwadkwon. The panel concluded that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not completely comply with court directives because 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) did not participate in the congress. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of Sherif Egbo, a 40-year-old ‘businessman,’ at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi claimed a body scanner confirmed that Egbo had wraps of illegal narcotics in his stomach. A sugarcane vendor and an unidentified military commander were killed in a single car accident in Kwara State on Sunday. The accident was reported to have occurred at one of the state’s checkpoints in Moro Local Government Area. Scores of people rushed to Deir el-Balah hospital to identify bodies on Sunday after Israel stepped up its air strikes on Gaza, as the territory’s Hamas rulers said 4,651 people have now been killed since the start of the war. Over 1,000 migrants arrived in Spain’s Canary Islands in a single day on Saturday after making the dangerous journey from Africa, including on a boat carrying 320 people that rescuers said was the most packed vessel they had ever seen.
